Open Invitation

Rutland Water Fly Fishers

Rutland Water Fly Fishers are organising the 2012 Rutland Youth Fly Fishing day, which will take place on Sunday the 22nd July at Rutland Water. The event is aimed at 10 to 17 year olds and will include fly tying, casting tuition and an afternoon fly fishing for trout, from a boat on Rutland Water, with an experienced fisherman.

With support from Anglian Water, the Environment Agency, the Angling Development Board, the Fly Dressers Guild, the England Youth Fly Fishing Team and many others, this event promises to be the largest fly fishing event aimed at young people in the country. With the explicit aim of introducing young people to fly fishing and developing those with an interest, this could be one of the most important events of the year for the future of our sport.

We can accommodate up to 130 participants with the fleet of 65 boats available on Rutland Water, but we also need up to 65 volunteer boatmen and 20 or more stewards on the day. To this end we would like to invite you to be boatman on the afternoon of Sunday the 22nd of July and take a pair of young anglers out onto Rutland Water.

In any case, we would appreciate any other contribution you may be able to make in the form of promoting this event to young people or to other potential boatmen. Posters for the event are available in both digital and poster format. Full details of the event, application forms for participation as a volunteer and for 10-17 year olds can be found on our web site

The Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day Secures Funding

On Monday Rutland Water Fly Fishers met up with the Environment Agency and the Angling Development Board to discuss the  Rutland Youth Fly Fishing Day, which will take place on July 22nd.

James Roche of the ADB has worked very hard on behalf of the club and managed to secure funding from the EA to the value of £3250.00.  The money will be used to provide fishing tackle for participants to use on the day.

Hugh Bunker, of the Environment Agency, said.  "I am so pleased Rutland Water Fly Fishers are running this event in July.  I am thrilled the club has asked for our support and that we are able to contribute to the largest youth fly fishing day ever. This event promises to be a fantastic day for all involved."

James Roche, of the ADB said "The day is really starting to take shape and it is a great credit to the club and the organising committee that the day could really be the biggest game angling participation event in the country."
